Hi friends, Microsoft has recently released the developer preview of Windows 8.1 operating system. It's an upgraded version of Windows 8 with newly added features. Microsoft has developed this operating system for the best compatibility with touch screen computing.
Here are some newly added features of Windows 8.1:
1. Start Button : In windows 8.1, microsoft has included start menu. You can access some features such as control panel, task manager, shut down, restart etc by right clicking on the start button. Although, by left clicking on the start button, you can open the additional windows 8.1 start screen.
2. Boot to desktop : Users that don’t use touchscreens with Windows weren’t too pleased with Windows 8’s insistence on booting into the revamped, tile-based Start screen UI. In 8.1 Microsoft has offered a compromise of sorts. You will have the option to boot directly to the desktop.
3. More Lock Screen and Start Screen Options : The start screen has now more tile sizes and background colors. You can use multiple picture passwords and it has inbuilt skype also. You can answer your skype calls without unlocking the screen. SkyDrive has also been included and upgraded with some more new features such as image galleries and cloud storage.
4. Xbox Music integration : Xbox Music has been integrated with Windows 8.1 and it allows users to stream million of songs for free. In windows 8.1, Xbox music's interface is more user friendly and supports custom playlists.
5. Snap Views For Running Apps : In windows 8.1, users can view the snaps of the running apps in background. A monitor with resolution 2560x1440 is recommended for snap view. You can use multi monitor feature also
6. New Windows Store : The user interface of new windows store is cool and clean. It shows larges thumbnails of the apps. Currently installed apps are auto updated in the background.
7. Extensive SkyDrive Integration : SkyDrive is integrated with Windows 8.1 and while installation, it asks to turn on skydrive. After turning it on, you can easily access your files in skydrive right from your desktop. Files are backed up and synchronized automatically.
8. Souped up Metro Control Panel : For touchscreen users, one of the biggest changes in Windows 8.1 is a massively beefed up Metro Control Panel. No longer will you have to fall back to the Desktop Control Panel to change a large number of system settings!
9. 3D printing support : In a rare example of Microsoft being cool, Windows 8.1 now has a 3D printing API, allowing you to print directly to 3D printers from the Charms bar.
10. Miracast streaming: Windows 8.1 supports Miracast, an open industry standard alternative to Apple’s AirPlay that uses WiFi Direct to stream content to nearby Miracast-enabled TVs.
